That unmistakable gravel-and-honey voice belongs to Shohreh Aghdashloo, an Iranian-American actress who fled Tehran during the 1979 revolution and rebuilt her career from exile. Hollywood discovered her late but emphatically: her grieving immigrant wife in 'House of Sand and Fog' (2003) earned an Oscar nomination, and she won an Emmy as Saddam Hussein's wife in 'House of Saddam' (2008). Genre fans revere her as the profane, silk-draped politician Chrisjen Avasarala in 'The Expanse' (2015-2022), alongside turns in 'Star Trek Beyond' (2016) and the animated 'Arcane' (2021). Regal composure edged with steel defines everything she plays.
