Melissa McCarthy
Queen of contemporary physical comedy, Melissa McCarthy (Plainfield, Illinois, 1970) went from television to worldwide stardom without giving up her audacity. She became known as the sweet Sookie of 'Gilmore Girls' and won an Emmy for 'Mike & Molly', but it was her torrential role in 'Bridesmaids' (2011) that earned her an Oscar nomination and a string of hits like 'The Heat', 'Spy', and 'Identity Thief'. She surprised the world with her dramatic register as writer Lee Israel in 'Can You Ever Forgive Me?' (2018), her second Academy nomination. Her strength lies in combining a comedy unafraid of ridicule with a vulnerability that makes her endearing.
