Judd Apatow's semi-sequel to 'Knocked Up' follows Pete and Debbie, now both turning forty, as their marriage buckles under the weight of failing businesses, rebellious children, aging parents, and the creeping suspicion that their best years are behind them. Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann deliver achingly naturalistic performances in a film that luxuriates in the uncomfortable specifics of middle-aged domestic life, finding both comedy and melancholy in arguments about screen time, finances, and lost intimacy. At over two hours, the film is characteristically loose and overlong, but its honesty about the daily negotiations of long-term partnership gives it a cumulative emotional power.
