The detectives of Manhattan's 15th Precinct work murders and their own ragged private lives in a drama that pushed network television's limits on language and nudity from its first episode. 'NYPD Blue', created by Steven Bochco and David Milch, ran twelve seasons on ABC from 1993 to 2005, its handheld camera style and morally compromised heroes reshaping the cop genre. Dennis Franz won four Emmys as Andy Sipowicz, the racist, alcoholic detective whose painful, decade-long redemption became the show's true subject, alongside partners played by David Caruso, Jimmy Smits, Rick Schroder and Mark-Paul Gosselaar. It won twenty Emmy Awards overall.
