Peter Boyle

A gifted American character actor of the 1970s and beyond, remembered for a remarkable comic-dramatic range. He gave a hilariously touching performance as the tap-dancing Monster in Mel Brooks's 'Young Frankenstein' (1974) and a chilling one as the racist Wizard in Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver' (1976). He died in 2006, late in life beloved by television audiences as the cranky Frank Barone on 'Everybody Loves Raymond' (1996). A versatile, deeply human performer, he moved effortlessly between menace and warmth.
