Before he brought Spider-Man to the screen, Sam Raimi directed 'Darkman', an original comic-book-style superhero film bursting with his kinetic, gothic energy. Liam Neeson stars as scientist Peyton Westlake, horribly burned and left for dead, who uses his synthetic-skin research to disguise himself and take revenge on the criminals who destroyed him. Raimi fuses pulpy tragedy, expressionist visuals and manic action into something wilder than the studio superhero norm. A modest hit that grew a cult following, it stands as a beloved oddball in the genre.
