John Singleton's final creative project before his death, this FX drama traces the early-1980s Los Angeles crack epidemic through three collision-bound characters: Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), a young dealer building an empire from nothing; a CIA operative funneling cocaine to fund a covert war; and a Mexican wrestling-family enforcer caught between cartels. Franklin's rise from ambitious teenager to ruthless kingpin over six seasons doubles as a slow-motion indictment of how the drug trade was allowed, even engineered, to devastate Black neighborhoods. Carter Hudson and Sergio Peris-Mencheta anchor the parallel tracks that keep circling back to Franklin's street. It's one of the more clear-eyed portraits of the crisis's actual machinery.
