Cheers

“Where everybody knows your name.”
7.6 /10 (693) 1982–1993
Comedy
Creator Les Charles, James Burrows
Former Red Sox pitcher Sam Malone runs a basement Boston bar where the regulars know each other's business better than their own, turning 'Cheers' into one of television's defining hangout comedies. Ted Danson's effortless charm as Sam plays off Kirstie Alley's uptight Diane and, later, Rhea Perlman's acid-tongued Carla, while George Wendt's Norm and John Ratzenberger's Cliff hold down their barstools with encyclopedic trivia and even more encyclopedic drinking. The show built its comedy on romantic tension and barroom banter rather than plot, proving a bar full of regulars could sustain eleven seasons of television. Few sitcoms have made a single room feel this lived-in, or this genuinely like home.
