Phyllis Smith
Known for
Phyllis Smith took one of the least likely routes to fame: she was working as a casting associate on 'The Office' (2005-2013) when producers decided her audition readings were too good to waste, and Phyllis Vance was born. Born in St. Louis in 1949, the former burlesque dancer and cheerleader later found an even wider audience as the voice of Sadness in Pixar's 'Inside Out' (2015) and 'Inside Out 2' (2024), and showed dramatic depth in the mystery series 'The OA' (2016-2019). Gentle timing and a mournful sweetness make her instantly recognizable.
