Son of Henry Fonda and brother of Jane, American actor Peter Fonda (1940-2019) became in his own right an icon of the 1960s counterculture. His name will forever be tied to 'Easy Rider' (1969), a film he produced, co-wrote and starred in as the biker Wyatt, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay and defined an entire generation. Decades later he delivered the most celebrated performance of his career as the widowed beekeeper of 'Ulee's Gold' (1997), which brought him a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination as an actor. He also won another Golden Globe for 'The Passion of Ayn Rand'. His range, of apparent sparseness and deep melancholy, embodied the yearning for freedom and the disenchantment of the American dream.
