Wes Craven ingeniously reinvented his own franchise with this meta-horror in which Freddy Krueger bleeds into the real world to torment the actual cast and crew of the original 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund play fictionalized versions of themselves as the demon behind the character comes to life. A clever, self-aware precursor to Craven's later 'Scream', it revitalized a tired series and is now regarded as one of its smartest, most inventive chapters.
