France, the 14th century. The knight Jean de Carrouges accuses his former friend, the squire Jacques Le Gris, of having raped his wife, Marguerite. Unable to prove the truth, King Charles VI decrees that the conflict be settled in a duel to the death, the last officially sanctioned in French history. The film recounts the events from three points of view, that of the husband, that of the accused and that of Marguerite herself, revealing the truths and lies of each. A historical drama by Ridley Scott, brutal and reflective, about honor, power and the silenced voice of a woman in a world of men.
