Nathan Fillion plays the sheriff fighting the infestation, with Elizabeth Banks and Michael Rooker. Lovingly indebted to 1980s creature features, it mixes gross-out effects with sharp humor and real affection for the genre. A box-office flop, it became a beloved cult film and an early showcase of Gunn's distinctive voice.
