Twenty-five years after the original Woodsboro killings, a new Ghostface stalks a fresh generation of teenagers connected to the original victims, drawing surviving legacy characters Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley back into the fray. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett after Wes Craven's death, this fifth installment self-consciously deconstructs 'requel' franchise filmmaking the same way the original 'Scream' deconstructed slasher tropes. Its blend of fan-service nostalgia and genuinely brutal kills was well received, successfully relaunching the franchise for a new decade.
