A Las Vegas casino magnate, for his own amusement, invites a group of strangers — including a lawyer, an air-traffic controller, and a hapless Italian family — to race across the desert to New Mexico for a locker stuffed with two million dollars, no rules attached. Jerry Zucker's ensemble comedy piles on slapstick set pieces, from a runaway hot-air balloon to a hijacked bus of Lucille Ball impersonators, as the competitors sabotage one another. The starry cast, including Rowan Atkinson, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Whoopi Goldberg, commits fully to the anarchic chaos. It's a broad, unabashed throwback to 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World', trading wit for sheer scale of destruction.
