Newly divorced, Meg Altman moves with her teenage daughter into an imposing stone townhouse in Manhattan that comes with a panic room: an armored bunker, designed as a refuge against intruders, with its own cameras and communications. On the first night, three burglars break into the home in search of something hidden right inside that very room, and mother and daughter barricade themselves in it. So begins a tense cat-and-mouse standoff in which the hiding place itself is the trap. David Fincher orchestrates a claustrophobic, millimeter-precise suspense thriller, with a virtuoso camera and Jodie Foster cornered in her own fortress.
