Tarsem Singh brings his signature maximalist visual style to this Snow White retelling, casting Julia Roberts as a vain, bankrupt evil queen scheming to marry a wealthy prince, played by Armie Hammer, while Snow White, played by Lily Collins, allies with seven rebellious dwarves to reclaim her kingdom. The film leans into lavish, fairy-tale-pageant production design and broad comedy rather than the darker tone of its same-year rival, 'Snow White and the Huntsman'. Roberts clearly relishes the campy villainy, even as critics found the tonal whiplash between slapstick and spectacle uneven.
