Holes

“Some secrets are too big to keep hidden.”
6.9 /10 (1,568) PGage 2003 1h 57m
Adventure Family Drama Comedy
Director Andrew Davis
Screenplay Louis Sachar
Based on Louis Sachar's beloved novel, which he adapted himself, this adventure-comedy follows the haplessly unlucky Stanley Yelnats to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention facility in the Texas desert where boys are forced to dig holes all day under the pretense of 'character building.' As Stanley befriends fellow inmate Zero and begins uncovering the true purpose behind the digging, the film weaves together three timelines spanning over a century to reveal how a family curse, a hidden treasure, and a legendary outlaw connect to everyone at the camp. Shia LaBeouf leads an excellent cast including Sigourney Weaver and Jon Voight in a film that respects young audiences enough to deliver genuine mystery, real stakes, and a narrative complexity rarely attempted in family cinema.
