Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez pay loving tribute to the double-feature exploitation cinema of the 1970s with this theatrical event pairing Rodriguez's zombie-outbreak splatterfest 'Planet Terror' with Tarantino's muscle-car slasher 'Death Proof', complete with fake trailers, missing reels, and deliberately degraded film stock. Rodriguez delivers gonzo ultraviolence with Rose McGowan's machine-gun leg becoming an instant icon, while Tarantino crafts lengthy dialogue sequences before unleashing Kurt Russell as a murderous stuntman in some of the most visceral car-chase footage ever filmed. The project is simultaneously a scholarly love letter to disreputable cinema and a daring commercial experiment, inviting audiences to experience movies the way 42nd Street audiences once did.
