Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel star as a father and son separated by thirty years but connected through a ham radio and a rare atmospheric phenomenon, allowing the son to warn his firefighter father — thought to have died in 1969 — about the fire that will kill him, an act that ripples forward to alter the present in unforeseen, dangerous ways. Director Gregory Hoblit blends time-travel science fiction with father-son melodrama and serial-killer thriller mechanics, as changing the past inadvertently unleashes a murderer who was never caught. The film's central conceit — cause and effect rippling across three decades via radio waves — gives the mystery plotting an unusual emotional core. 'Frequency' was a critical and commercial success, praised for grounding its high-concept premise in genuine family feeling.
