From Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell, this horror film follows Jamie Ashen as he returns to his eerie hometown of Raven's Fair to investigate his wife's brutal murder, which occurred shortly after a mysterious ventriloquist dummy arrived at their door. His search leads him to the legend of Mary Shaw, a ventriloquist murdered decades earlier by the town after being wrongly blamed for a child's death, whose vengeful spirit now animates an army of dolls. Wan leans into gothic, doll-centric imagery and jump scares rather than the Saw franchise's gore, aiming for atmosphere over shock. Though critically dismissed on release, it has found a cult following among horror fans drawn to its committed creepy-doll mythology.
