David Cronenberg adapts Don DeLillo's cryptic novel into a hypnotic odyssey through late capitalism, following a billionaire asset manager who crosses Manhattan in his stretch limousine to get a haircut while his fortune evaporates in real time. Robert Pattinson anchors the film as the increasingly unmoored protagonist, receiving a parade of visitors—lovers, advisors, assassins—inside his hermetically sealed vehicle as riots engulf the city outside. The film is deliberately cold and cerebral, more philosophical provocation than traditional narrative. A divisive art-house meditation on wealth, decay, and the void at the heart of modern finance.
