Based on the memoir by Nico Walker, it follows an aimless young man who drops out of college and enlists as an army medic, with no emotional anchor other than his love for Emily. Deployed to Iraq, he returns devastated by post-traumatic stress and sinks into a spiral of opioid addiction that pushes him to rob banks to pay for the drug. Directed by the Russo brothers and starring Tom Holland in a raw register, it is a stark, episodic drama about a generation broken by war, dependency and a system incapable of supporting those who served it.
