A gentle young spirit drifts through a decaying Maine mansion, longing for the companionship that death denied him, while his three boisterous ghost uncles delight in scaring off the living. When a paranormal therapist and his teenage daughter move in to make peace with the haunting, the lonely boy finds his first real friend, and the ache of a love that can never quite take solid form. Brad Silberling blends pioneering computer effects with a surprisingly tender streak of melancholy, wrapping a family-friendly comedy around themes of grief, memory and belonging that give it an unexpected emotional weight.
