John Candy

An endearing giant of comedy, Canadian John Candy (Toronto, 1950-1994) honed his craft at the legendary The Second City and its program 'SCTV' before becoming one of the best-loved faces of 1980s comic cinema. He appeared in hits like 'Stripes', 'Splash' and 'Cool Runnings', and starred alongside John Hughes in memorable family comedies like 'The Great Outdoors'. His most celebrated performance was the talkative and moving Del Griffith in 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles'. Candy had the gift of wrapping his physical humor in a genuine tenderness, making even his most ridiculous characters profoundly human.
