Walter Huston (1883-1950) was a Canadian-American actor and patriarch of one of Hollywood's most illustrious cinematic dynasties. He won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre', directed by his son John Huston, in a role as an old gold prospector that is today an absolute classic. His career ranged from D.W. Griffith's historical drama 'Abraham Lincoln' to 'Dodsworth', which gave him one of his great roles. With a cavernous voice and a wise presence, he embodied like few others the figure of the veteran hardened by life.
