When a genetically engineered plague wipes out nearly all of humanity within weeks, the handful left standing find themselves pulled toward one of two poles: the ancient, dream-visiting Mother Abagail in Nebraska, or the seductive, apocalyptic promise of Randall Flagg in Las Vegas. James Marsden's Stu Redman and Odessa Young's Frannie Goldsmith are among the survivors forced to choose sides in a battle less about weapons than about what kind of world deserves to be rebuilt. Alexander Skarsgård plays Flagg with a magnetic, unsettling calm that makes him one of Stephen King's most memorable screen villains. This adaptation leans into King's biblical scale without losing the human terror at its center.
