The Powerpuff Girls

The Powerpuff Girls

“Saving the world before bedtime.”
7.5 /10 (1,016) 1998–2005
Action & Adventure Animation Comedy Kids Family
Creator Craig McCracken
Created in a lab accident involving sugar, spice, everything nice and an errant splash of Chemical X, Blossom (Cathy Cavadini), Bubbles (Tara Strong) and Buttercup (E.G. Daily) are kindergarten-aged superheroes raised by the well-meaning Professor Utonium and deployed by Townsville's hapless mayor whenever monsters or supervillains attack. Cartoon Network's landmark series pairs candy-colored, retro-futurist art direction with surprisingly sharp genre satire, packing action-movie tropes and moral lessons into eleven-minute episodes narrated with mock-serious gravity by Tom Kenny. Villains like Mojo Jojo and HIM became as iconic as the girls themselves, giving the show a rogues' gallery worthy of any adult superhero franchise. It remains one of the defining texts of girl-power children's animation.
