Valerie Cherish, a sitcom star from the nineties, agrees to be filmed for a reality show while taking a supporting role as an aunt on a new network comedy, and the cameras keep rolling through every humiliation she would rather not have recorded. Lisa Kudrow created the HBO series with Michael Patrick King and plays Valerie herself, in footage presented as unedited raw tape. The first season aired in 2005 and was cancelled; HBO brought it back for a second in 2014, with Valerie now circling a prestige cable drama.
