Adapting the buddy-cop franchise for television, 'Lethal Weapon' pairs a grieving, self-destructive Martin Riggs -- a former Navy SEAL freshly transferred to LAPD homicide -- with veteran detective Roger Murtaugh, who'd very much like to survive to retirement. Damon Wayans brings weary exasperation to Murtaugh while his co-stars carry the volatile Riggs role, with Keesha Sharp and Kevin Rahm rounding out a supporting cast of family and fellow cops. Each case doubles as therapy by explosion, Riggs' recklessness colliding with Murtaugh's caution until both are forced to confront what they're actually running from. It's a broad, action-heavy translation of the films' odd-couple chemistry, favoring mismatched banter over noir instincts.
