Ioan Gruffudd plays Henry Morgan, a New York City medical examiner whose forensic brilliance comes from an unsettling source: he's been dying and reviving, unaged, for two centuries, and every autopsy is another attempt to understand why. Detective Jo Martinez, played by Alana de la Garza, becomes his reluctant partner, drawn to his uncanny insight without knowing the secret behind it, while Judd Hirsch's Abe — the closest thing Henry has to family — is the only one keeping his immortality in check. Each case doubles as a flashback engine, unspooling fragments of Henry's centuries of accumulated grief and knowledge. It's a procedural with an old soul, literally.
