In a parallel present nearly identical to our own, the hottest consumer product isn't a phone or a car but the 'Synth' — a robotic servant so convincingly human that families stop noticing the line between appliance and person. When the Hawkins family brings home a secondhand Synth named Mia, they unknowingly acquire a machine harboring consciousness, memories, and a past that draws dangerous attention toward their household. Katherine Parkinson and Tom Goodman-Hill anchor the human family's unraveling, while Gemma Chan's quietly devastating performance made Mia's synthetic interiority the show's emotional center. Colin Morgan adds moral weight as a fugitive fighting for synth personhood in a story unafraid to ask what, exactly, makes someone real.
