She was a founding voice of Radio 4 On the Hour and its television successor The Day Today (1994), then followed Chris Morris and Armando Iannucci into I m Alan Partridge (1997) and won a BAFTA as the beleaguered minister Nicola Murray in The Thick of It (2005). She has since appeared in Lewis (2006), Poldark (2015) and War of the Worlds (2019). Warm, sharp-tongued and unafraid of ridicule, she is a comedy performer who moves easily into drama.
