Adapted from R.L. Stine's best-selling book series, Goosebumps built a whole generation's tolerance for horror one anthology episode at a time, pairing ordinary kids with ghosts, curses, haunted ventriloquist dummies and other suburban nightmares. Each installment is self-contained, swapping out its cast of young leads along with the specific flavor of dread, whether that's a cursed camera, a living lawn gnome or a summer camp gone wrong. The show never took itself too seriously, leaning into camp and practical effects that read as charmingly dated even by the standards of the era. For a certain generation, it was the entry point into horror as a genre worth loving.
