Babylon 5
“The last, best hope for peace.”
CreatorJ. Michael Straczynski
Five miles long and built to keep the peace, the space station Babylon 5 hosts ambassadors from five civilizations, including the Earth Alliance, the Minbari Federation, and the Centauri Republic, trying to avoid the wars that nearly destroyed them a generation earlier. Commander Sinclair gives way to Captain John Sheridan, played by Bruce Boxleitner, whose leadership is tested by security chief Michael Garibaldi, played by Jerry Doyle, and ambassadors played by Mira Furlan, Richard Biggs, and Andreas Katsulas. Conceived as a single five-year story rather than an episodic procedural, it plotted its political intrigue years in advance. That serialized ambition made it a quiet blueprint for the prestige sci-fi that followed.
