An American actor of a long and uneven trajectory, Robert Forster debuted strongly as the reporter of 'Medium Cool' (1969) before stringing together years of minor roles. His great resurrection came courtesy of Quentin Tarantino, who rescued him to play the bail bondsman Max Cherry in 'Jackie Brown' (1997), a work of restraint and tenderness that earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. Born in Rochester, New York, he played weathered, honest and somewhat weary men, with a calm that filled the screen without raising his voice. He worked until the end of his life, dying in 2019, leaving the memory of a first-rate supporting player able to move an audience with a single glance.
