Paul Greengrass

Paul Greengrass is an English director born in Cheam, Surrey, celebrated for a visceral, handheld documentary-style approach that reshaped the modern action thriller. Bloody Sunday, a docudrama reconstruction of a 1972 massacre in Northern Ireland, established his immersive, journalistic visual method, which he brought to mainstream franchise filmmaking with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, whose shaky, rapid-cutting camera style became widely imitated across the action genre. United 93, a real-time reconstruction of the September 11 hijacking, and Captain Phillips, based on a real Somali piracy hostage crisis, extended his commitment to tense, fact-based dramatization rendered with the same immersive urgency. Greengrass's fusion of documentary technique with mainstream genre storytelling has made him one of the most influential stylists of the contemporary action thriller.
