Mamoru Hosoda's tender animated drama follows Hana, a young mother whose werewolf lover dies suddenly, leaving her to raise their two half-wolf children — Yuki and Ame — entirely on her own, hiding their true nature from a suspicious world. As the children grow, Hana relocates to the countryside, where each child must eventually choose between embracing their human or wolf identity. Rendered with Studio Chizu's gentle, painterly animation style, the film transforms a fantastical premise into an intimate meditation on single parenthood and a child's right to define their own path. Widely praised as one of Hosoda's finest works, it stands alongside Miyazaki's films as a benchmark of emotionally grounded Japanese animation.
