Jason Statham plays Nick Wild, a Las Vegas bodyguard and card-counter whose gambling addiction and moral code collide when he agrees to help a friend exact violent retribution against the mobster who assaulted her, setting off a chain of consequences he can't control. Based on William Goldman's novel 'Heat', the film leans on Statham's efficient, hard-edged action-star persona rather than deep characterization. Director Simon West keeps the pace brisk across Vegas's neon backdrop. It's a lean, functional entry in Statham's genre-action output rather than a genuine reinvention of the material.
