Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade form a neighborhood watch group that is ostensibly about community safety but really about escaping their mundane suburban lives, until they stumble upon an actual alien invasion hiding in plain sight. Director Akiva Schaffer lets his four leads improvise extensively, resulting in a comedy that pivots wildly between male-bonding riffs and sci-fi action when the disguised extraterrestrials reveal their plan for global conquest. The tonal mix is uneven but occasionally inspired, working best when the film leans into the absurdity of middle-aged men playing hero against a threat no one else believes.
