Two young men obsessed with conspiracy theories kidnap Michelle, the powerful CEO of a large pharmaceutical corporation, convinced to the core that she is in fact an alien infiltrator with a plan to annihilate Earth. Locked up and shaved in the basement of an isolated house, the executive deploys all her cunning to manipulate her captors as the psychological standoff between reason and delusion strains to the breaking point. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the film is a corrosive fable about modern paranoia, distrust and failure to communicate. An unsettling thriller of icy humor about who has really lost touch with reality.
