Nicholas Van Orton is a San Francisco banker as rich as he is solitary and detached, marked by his father's suicide. For his birthday, his younger brother gives him enrollment in a mysterious, tailor-made game that an enigmatic company promises to weave into his life. At first it seems a harmless eccentricity, but soon the rules blur and Nicholas can no longer tell where the performance ends and a real threat, stripping him of everything he controlled, begins. David Fincher orchestrates a paranoid thriller of perfect mechanism, trapping the viewer in the same dizzying uncertainty as its protagonist. A dark, addictive puzzle.
