When George Reeves, television's Superman, is found dead from a gunshot wound in 1959, a down-on-his-luck private investigator takes the case and uncovers multiple theories about whether the actor's death was suicide, murder, or accident. Ben Affleck portrays the troubled star in flashbacks that reveal his affair with a studio mogul's wife and his growing desperation as his career declined. This noir-tinged mystery uses old Hollywood's shadow side to meditate on fame, failure, and the stories we construct around unexplained deaths.
