In Elizabethan England, the life of a young Stratford playwright and of Agnes, his intuitive and free-spirited wife, is torn apart by the loss of their eleven-year-old son, Hamnet, taken by the plague. The couple's profound grief and the void left by the tragedy germinate, years later, into the creation of the most celebrated play ever written. An intimate portrait of a family and of a sorrow transformed into immortal art. A delicate, moving period drama about married love, motherhood and the mourning that inspired 'Hamlet'.
