Steven Brill directed this broad comedy, co-written by Seth Rogen, starring Owen Wilson as a homeless con man and army deserter who poses as a professional bodyguard hired by three bullied middle-schoolers to protect them, gradually developing a conscience. Amiable but slight, it softens its premise into a predictable feel-good arc. Reviews were tepid, viewing it as a watered-down, PG-13 riff on the Judd Apatow comedy style without the edge that made those films land.
