Christian Alvart's horror thriller stars Renée Zellweger as Emily Jenkins, a veteran social worker who takes custody of Lilith, a seemingly sweet 10-year-old girl whose parents have attempted to kill her, only to discover the child harbors a malevolent supernatural force far more dangerous than any abusive parent. As Lilith manipulates and destroys everyone drawn into Emily's protective orbit, the film reworks familiar "evil child" horror tropes through the specific lens of a well-meaning caretaker who cannot recognize the danger she's invited into her life. Shelved for several years before release, the film received a muted critical and commercial reception typical of late-2000s studio horror. It remains a minor entry in the killer-kid subgenre, notable primarily for Zellweger's against-type genre turn.
