'Carriers' is a bleak low-budget pandemic thriller, made before its stars broke big, following four young people, among them Chris Pine, driving across a devastated America to outrun a lethal airborne virus. As supplies and trust dwindle, the film is less about the plague than about how ordinary people betray their own morals to survive. Grim and small in scale, it was barely released theatrically but earned some respect for its uncompromising tone. A modest, sobering entry in the outbreak genre.
