Jonathan Mostow directed this taut, stripped-down thriller starring Kurt Russell as a man whose wife, played by Kathleen Quinlan, vanishes after their car breaks down on a desolate desert highway, leaving him at the mercy of locals who deny she ever existed. J.T. Walsh is chillingly ordinary as the trucker at the center of the conspiracy. Lean, tense and efficient, it earned strong reviews as a superior example of the everyman-in-peril thriller.
