Daniel Barnz's teen-oriented modernization of 'Beauty and the Beast' relocates the fairy tale to a contemporary New York high school. Critically dismissed but modestly profitable, it slots into the mid-2000s wave of fairy-tale-to-YA teen romance adaptations.
