In mid-1990s Detroit, Jimmy 'B-Rabbit' Smith scrapes by in a trailer with his mother and works at a factory while dreaming of breaking into the rap scene. White in a world dominated by Black rappers, he carries the stage fright that once froze him at the microphone and the pressure of an environment pushing him to give up. Between precarious jobs, fragile friendships, and an on-again, off-again relationship, he searches for the voice and the courage to stand up in the rap battles at the Shelter club. A raw, vibrant portrait of working-class ambition, with Eminem making his screen debut in a story that borders on the autobiographical.
